Maidstone Young Artist Award 2022

After a delay of a year due to covid, the preview and award presentation of the Maidstone Young Artist Award (MYAA) finally happened on 29 April. The competition runs bi-annually to help encourage the young artists of Kent and the surrounding areas and give them a chance to exhibit in a professional setting.  This award is sponsored by MMF, who meet all the costs including prize money.

The judges this year were led by Lord Sackville of Knole Place, Beryl Bush, a local artist who works with children and raises funds for charities through her artworks, Bill Stotesbury, MMF board member and Izzy Rye, MMF youth Ambassador. Over 30 artworks were selected and gave the judges a very hard time making their decisions. They came to an agreement on the winners and runners-up for both age categories of 15 to 25 years and 14 years and under.

With over 100 people attending the award event, there was silence as Lord Sackville awarded the prizes as follows:

15 – 25 years

1st Prize – Maria Simonova, ‘Spiritus Invictus’

Runner up – Madeleine Brassington,‘The Observing Bluetit’

14 years old and under:

1st Prize – Isabel Zheng, ‘Magic Fruit’

Runner up – James Thomas, ‘Hare with Carrot’

Our thanks go to all the judges and many congratulations to all the winners as well as everyone who entered. Come and see if you agree with the judges decisions and take part in the Visitor’s Vote – the exhibition at the Museum runs from 30th April to 9th July. Free entry.

We look forward to Maidstone Young Artist Award 2024.
