About 30 Friends joined a visit around parts of Allington Castle and the gardens, on a splendid evening of the 4th August.

We were treated to a superb guided tour by two expert and humorous guides. They imparted much information about the castle and the grounds – their history, uses and various restorations – to bring them to their glory today. And the guides did not hold back from anecdotal stories (whether true or not, who knows?). We even saw the ‘priest hole’. And half way around we were very pleased to be joined by Sir Robert Worcester himself.

After a fascinating tour we adjourned to the splendid Great Hall, where we were served tea and coffee together with excellent cakes (& what choice!). There was additional explanation of the Hall and surrounding rooms, together with a very good question and answer session.

The Chairman, Mark Baker thanked Sir Robert and his staff for their hospitality and insight into a fascinating, local Maidstone, venue.
