Tribute to the Late Trevor Sturgess DL

Died 28th November 2025

On behalf of Maidstone Museum Friends

I am extremely sorry to announce the sudden death of Trevor Sturgess DL, who was our Secretary for 12 years, standing down in June this year.

Trevor remained a prominent volunteer working at the shop on Saturdays, where he enjoyed talking to people about the MMF and sign posting them to the Museum. His support in helping with the running of our events was invaluable. It was only in October that he gave us a talk on The Kent Lieutenancy of which he was a Deputy Lieutenant. (See photo) It was Trevor who was our official photographer and wrote a large number of articles for the website and social media. Our Willington Players connection was instigated by Trevor with him organising the sale of tickets, which has raised a large amount of money for disability access in the Museum.
Trevor had been a journalist in the Middle East where he reported on sport, diplomatic and environmental issues. He Joined the Kent Messenger Group in 1987 becoming Business Editor for many years before retiring in 2013, following which he did freelance work for a number of years.
Trevor was passionate about Cricket, Maidstone and Kent
He leaves wife Sue and daughter Zoe.
For me personally, he became a good friend after joining the MMF Board. We have lost a sensitive, kind and gentle man who will be missed by one and all.
