April 2023
“The hop’s on the bine down Faversham Way and the Apple’s in fruit around Marden.”
Just a few words from a song written by Kentish folk stalwart Bob Kenward who performed it with John and Di Cullen at the MMF’s second annual folk concert in the Museum Friends’ Shop on April 6.
Once again Kent Song Collective delighted an audience of more than 20 who joined in the chorus to songs about Kent, its places and history. One was even about its long-established expertise in cricket ball manufacture, written by Bob who played for Kent club Gore Court in younger days.
We owe Bob, Di and John a huge debt of gratitude for preserving in song what we hold dear about our beloved county. The audience responded with a loud “yes” when asked if they would like Kent Song Collective to return next year. We look forward to welcoming another chance to admire and join in with these talented singers in 2024 – with a date to be confirmed in due course.
“Here’s health to the Darent, likewise the Medway, And the Downs that surround England’s garden.”
