After the vitual AGM last year (through Zoom), it was very good to all meet again and allow proper debate to flow.

Mark Baker, the Chairman, expanded on a difficult year for MMF operation, but there was focus on the opening and functioning

of the Pop-Up shop in Fremlin Walk. The venue was being used to its maximum, allowing for the restrictions of volunteers’ time.

Indeed, the evening’s event showed how we were using it to great effect.

Stephen Farrant, the Treasurer, reported that our balances were holding up very well given the diminished activities in 2020.

Ivan White, the membership secretary, advised that our membership stayed at roughly the same level (c500) as the previous year, which is very

heartening.

The 2020 Annual Report was made available – hot off the press.

A pdf version (along with the Annual Accounts) is now on the ‘About Us – Trustees’ page of this website.

Trustees up for re-election – Mike Evans, Trevor Sturgess and Ivan White – were all returned unopposed.

We were pleased to be graced by the presence of the Mayer – Fay Gooch – and her consort Husband Peter – both are long standing Friends.

Afterwards we received an informative presentation by the Museums’ Collections Manager, Sam Harris, entitled:

MAIDSTONE MUSEUM – a mini V&A, British Museum & Natural History Museum combined”.

It emphasised what an eclectic collection the Museums have but, more importantly, it emphasised the esteem in which Maidstone is

held by these national, London based, institutions. It was, as ever from Sam, an excellent presentation and her enthusiasm for the subject

shone through.

We are delighted to report that Sam has agreed to make a presentation after next year’s AGM, about the Japanese Collection

– her favourite subject. Although this year’s AGM was held in October because of Covid, next year the MMF AGM will revert to June – the

time of the year in which it is normally held.
